RAWALPINDI: Fine arts students at the Fatima Jinnah Women University (FJWU) on Wednesday exhibited the artwork they made as part of their thesis at the Rawalpindi Arts Council (RAC).

The exhibition was inaugurated by renowned artist Jamal Shah with RAC Resident Director Waqar Ahmed, former director Naheed Manzoor and a large number of students and members of the public also attending.

More than 25 Bachelor of Arts students and 27 Master of Fine Arts students displayed their work at the RAC. All the pieces were simple but innovative.

Students had tried their hand at oil painting, miniature, calligraphy, textile, graphic designing, print making and photography. Some of the works depicted the historical forts of Punjab while others had focused on city life.

One student deigned a video game for children featuring locals while another had tried to depict life in Raja Bazaar, which she called ‘Raja Bazaar Ki Kahani’. The natural beauty of Gilgit-Baltistan was also featured in the exhibition.

A student had produced a video documentary on Rawalpindi’s Landa Bazar and had called it the ‘Poor Man’s Shopping Paradise’, while another had produced a documentary on railway tracks.

FJWU Vice Chancellor Dr Samina Amin Qadir applauded the students’ efforts and said the pieces reflected creativity, imagination and talent.

RAC Resident Director Waqar Ahmed said the students had beautifully translated their ideas and imagination onto their art pieces.

He said the exhibition was a blend of unique art objects and represented the talent and creativity of the students.

“This has proved that the young generation is talented and under the guidance of experienced teachers, the will explore new avenues,” he said.

The exhibition will remain open till September 26.
