KARACHI: Deputy Commissioner South Mohammad Saleem Rajput has said that sportswomen of Sindh have tremendous talent to represent the province strongly just as their male counterparts do, provided they also get enough chances and better infrastructure to polish their talent.

“Women of our province can even outperform their male counterparts if we provide them with a fair chance to prove their mettle and give them proper infrastructure,” said Saleem during a reception ceremony organized by DMC South in honor of Sindh women softball team for claiming silver medal in 13th National Women Softball championship.

Saleem praised the Sindh team for performing well and added that the DMC South region, after consultations with SSA secretary general Asif Azeem, will hold Inter-District Softball Championship after the month of Ramazan.

Administrator Naeem Sindho emphasised that the female players should get equal chances to showcase their talent in all sports. He also announced a cash award of Rs 100,000 for Sindh women softball team players and officials.

Asif, speaking on the occasion, said that such ceremonies encourage athletes and it is a good omen for sports in the country.

The ceremony concluded with Salim Rajput awarding a gold medal to Sindh women softball team captain Irum Khan and distributing gifts and certificates among the other players and officials.. Other dignitaries present on the occasion included Dr Farhan Essa, Zeeshan Merchant, Additional DC Mohammad Khan Rind, Principal Trinity College Erene Pearl and former hockey player Mushir Rabbani.
