KARACHI: Pakistani opener Mohammad Hafeez on Monday underwent an MRI scan here at the Aga Khan University Hospital, which revealed that the condition of his knee has not improved.

Hafeez, who missed a two-week-long fitness training programme at Pakistan Military Academy (Kakul), due to a knee injury sustained during the Asia Cup T20 earlier this year is doubtful for inclusion in the upcoming tour of England.

Last week, Hafeez was named in the 21-man probable list for the tour of England. But his prospects of accompanying the team remained bleak after his medical report said his knee condition was 'unsatisfactory'.

Sources reveal that Hafeez received improper treatment by Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) doctors at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) post-ICC World T20 (Wt20), which aggravated his injury.

After Dr. Sohail Saleem's resignation, Hafeez approached Crystal Palace Football Club's Pakistan-born doctor, Zafar Iqbal. It was Dr. Iqbal who suggested Hafeez get his MRI done from a private hospital in Karachi, sources said.

Hafeez will now head back to Lahore where he will consult Dr. Iqbal, formerly a medical consultant for the Liverpool Football Club.

The possibility of surgery has not been ruled out if Hafeez fails to recover, sources said.

"I want to play cricket as soon as possible. This injury has not disheartened me," said the batsman while talking to DawnNews.

Hafeez made his international debut in April 2003 in a One-Day International (ODI) against Zimbabwe at Sharjah.

The Sargodha-born player has amassed 5,356 runs in ODIs with an average run rate of 32.46.

He also captained the Pakistan side in the WT20 campaign in 2012.

Hafeez's inclusion could be the difference between the two sides if he makes it to the national squad touring England.

The two cricket giants will clash in four Tests, five ODIs, and a T20 contest later this summer.
