Security of 35 private schools found ‘unsatisfactory’

ISLAMABAD: Security arrangements around 35 private educational institutions in the capital have been found unsatisfactory.

In a letter to the chief commissioner office, the inspector general of the capital police stated that the Special Branch conducted a security audit/survey of private educational institutions regarding the establishment of vantage points (bunkers on rooftops) for their security guards. This was one of the major requirements under a standard operating procedure (SOP) prepared by the police for the security of the private schools in the capital.

As per the audit report, the 35 private educational institutions have not established the vantage points, the letter stated. It added that the director general of the Federal Directorate of Educational (FDE), the chairmen of Pakistan Educational Institutions Regulatory Authority (PEIRA) and the Higher Education Commission (HEC) should be approached to issue instructions to the educational institutions for the construction of the vantage points.

The senior superintendent of police (SSP) was directed to instruct all the zonal superintendents to conduct security audit of institutions in their areas and ensure the implementation of the guidelines and the standard operating procedure issued for their security.

The Special Branch in its security audit also said there were no vantage points for the security guards in the government and private educational institutes in Tarnol.

Similarly, except Ripha University, all the institutes located in the jurisdiction of the Noon police were without the vantage points or bunkers. The educational institutes located in the limits of Shams Colony police were also to fulfil the requirement.

A vantage point was established at Fast University located in the area of Sabzi Mandi police while other educational institutes in the area were still without it.

Three institutes located in Banigala followed the SOP and established the vantage points while the rest failed to do so. Except one, all other institutes in Shahzad Town are yet to establish the bunkers.

There are only five private schools in the limits of the Margalla police which have the vantage points. Similarly, only six private institutes located in the area of I-9 police followed the SOP.

Four educational institutes in the area of Kohsar police followed the SOP while the others failed to establish the vantage points.

All the educational institutes located in Golra, Shalimar, Karachi Company, Nilor, Kural, Loi Bher, Sihala, Khanna, Aabpara, Secretariat, Bhara Kahu and Ramna police stations were also found without the vantage points.
