ISLAMABAD: On the directives of a court, the capital police have registered a case against two men on the charge of raping and detaining a woman over five months ago.

Officials in the police on Monday told Dawn that on June 28 a woman approached the Khana police and complained that a ‘spiritual healer’ detained and raped her. However, the police refused to register a case. Later, she submitted an application with the district and sessions court (East) which a few days ago ordered the police to register the FIR.

The woman, a resident of Rawalpindi, complained to the police that one of his acquaintances had told her about the ‘spiritual healer’. On June 28, she visited the residence of the ‘spiritual healer’ located in Iqbal Town. When the woman reached there, she was asked to sit in a room. She said moments later, the accused entered the room and raped her on gunpoint.

She said she was raped by the accused in connivance with the man who had sent her there.

When contacted, Abdur Rehman, the station house officer (SHO) of Khana police, confirmed to Dawn that after receiving the court order the case had been registered.

“The woman’s brother and maternal uncle have confirmed that she is mentally disturbed,” the SHO stated. He said the family of the complainant had been asked to shift her to a mental hospital for treatment.

“Her allegations are baseless as no such incident happened at all,” the SHO claimed, adding the case would be quashed soon.

He said as the court had issued the order, the police had to register the case. He said even if such an incident occurred, it is now over five months old and cannot be probed properly due to the difficulty in collection of evidence.
