Scattered rain in city

LAHORE: Scattered rain in the city on Thursday, which was brief but heavy in its central and southern parts, broke the hot and humid spell prevailing for some three days.

There was little or no rain in the eastern parts of the city and around the airport.

However, in central and southern parts low-lying areas were inundated and mugginess appeared after rain stopped.

Weather nevertheless started getting pleasant in the evening because of the lowering of the temperature.

The city’s maximum temperature was 38 degrees Celsius and the minimum on Wednesday night 28 degrees Celsius. Nearly 80 per cent humidity made weather muggy during the day.

The Met Office reported 19mm rain at its Jail Road office and 2mm at the airport.

It reported heavy rain in some cities in the country in the last 24 hours. Noorpur Thal received 64mm rain, Islamabad 59mm, Peshawar city 40mm, Chirat 38mm, Rawalpindi 3mm, Dera Ghazi Khan 19mm, Murree and Parachinar 17mm each, Kohat 14mm, Barkhan 10mm, Bahawalpur 8mm and Malamjabba received 5mm rain.

Scattered thunderstorm, rain is expected over southern Punjab (Bahawalpur division) during the next 24 hours. Isolated thunderstorm/rain is expected over northern Punjab (Rawalpindi, Gujranwala and Lahore divisions), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Kashmir, including upper catchments of the rivers Indus, Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi and Sutlej.

Scattered thunderstorm, rain is also likely to occur over upper catchments of all major rivers on July 5.
