MUSIC is said to be the food for the soul; perhaps it’s true, so today we will not only listen to the music but create our very own too! Technology has made it all so easy that you can learn and create your music from your desktop on www.beatlab.com — a website that lets you create beats with a twist of your own!
Warning for music lovers, the website will engage you for hours, visit only when you have ample free time! This simple looking website consists of a number of widgets suspended on a static background.
On the homepage, you are presented with a grid. You can use various sounds presented on the right side of the grid in creating your music. Buttons on the top left let you control the speed of the piece; buttons on the top right let you control the length. Numbers on the top act as a measurement of ‘sections’ of the song.
All you have to do is to add sounds to the grid, by either clicking, or click and drag. Boxes that are dark make no sound, boxes that are lit up make sound. All in all, it is very easy to use, with no bugs or glitches that I was able to detect. It loads fast, and it’s responsive, so won’t have any problem even if you open it on your tab or a mobile.
The good thing is that you are not stuck with the default sounds given on the site, you can upload your own, or choose from the library of sounds that other users have uploaded. There’s just no limit to the number of sounds you can add or upload.
Apart from that, there is also a ‘leader board’ system, where user votes the best sound. The voting system presents the user with two songs at random, and they choose which of the two they like better. At the end of each week, the votes are tallied and the winners of each ‘beat battle’ are listed.
However, if you want to save your sounds, you should link Beatlab to your Facebook account. So kids, impress your friends this week with a few catchy tunes of your own!
