Schools, colleges asked to submit security details

ISLAMABAD: The capital police have initiated the second phase of security monitoring in educational institutions.

The administrations of all schools have been asked to submit details and particulars of students, teachers and other employees. Besides, they have been asked about details of parking lots for visitors and parents along with slums near the institutes.

The police have designed a form with the assistance of a foreign security consultant of a western embassy. In the form, the police have asked schools about various security steps, including hiring of snipers and arranging radio communication on their premises. But some police officers said there was no sniper available in the country.

“There are sharp shooters in government organisations and departments who are mistakenly called snipers,” they said.

About radio communication, they said there was a long procedure to get the radio frequency for any institute. The two-page form was distributed among the educational institutions to collect the details, the police officials added.

The form is divided into five parts. Part A seeks contact information, including name of the institution, address and name of its head or principal.

In part B, ‘key statistics’, details about the students and their number in different categories, including pre-school to grade-5, grade 6 and above, number of teachers and staff (excluding security guards) have been sought.

In part C ‘outer perimeter’, details about encroachments, bushes, drain, drop-down barriers, delta barriers, walk-through gates, slums, names of buildings and offices around, parking for staff and visitors, no-parking zones and lighting have been sought.

In part D, ‘inner perimeter’, the institutions have been asked to submit details about the boundary wall and its type ie concrete/brick/other, fence, condition, height, barbed/razor wire, total number of gates and gates in use, CCTV, monitoring room, radio communication, etc.

Part E is about the “emergency plans/standard operating procedures in which the institutes have been asked about the police verification of private employees etc.
