Hoti’s ex-wife registers another case against him

ISLAMABAD: The capital police have registered yet another case against Azam Khan Hoti former senator and communication minister, this time for allegedly threatening his ex-wife.

Police said on Thursday, that a case was registered at Secretariat Police Station against Mr Hoti on charges of wrongful restraint and criminal intimidation.

Hoti’s ex-wife Shamim Akhter Kiani has been engaged in a legal battle with her former husband over non-payment of dower.

According to the police, after a hearing at the Supreme Court (SC), Ms. Kiani was approaching the parking lot when she was told by her driver that a man called Shahnawaz had been watching their movements.

She alleged that Shahnawaz is a resident of Peshawar and a close associate of Hoti who has been ordered by Hoti to kill her, which is why he was following her.

Ms Kiani said that upon seeing Shahnawaz, she ran back to the SC building. Twenty minutes later, she returned to the parking lot and left in her car. At this point, her stalker began following her and tried to intercept her at Margalla Road.

Police quoted the complainant as saying that Shahnawaz also gestured to her threateningly. Following this, she again returned to the SC building, where she stayed for over an hour.

Ms Kiani told the police that she is pursuing cases against both Shahnawaz and Hoti. She said that Shahnawaz was not scheduled to appear at the SC and was only there to kill her. “I have received death threats from them,” she was quoted as saying.

In response to the complaint, police registered a case but no arrest has been made so far.

In March 2014, the police registered a similar case when two men broke into Ms Kiani’s house, held her at gunpoint and told her to withdraw cases against her ex-husband.
