Governor Punjab lauds Qadri’s decision to end PAT sit-in
QUETTA: Governor Punjab Chaudhary Muhammad Sarwar has termed calling off an anti-government protest sit-in in Islamabad by Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) chief Dr Tahirul Qadri a good omen for the democratic system of the country.
He arrived in Quetta on Saturday and participated in different programs regarding education and also met political personalities.
Speaking to media representatives after meeting politicians and educationists, the governor underlined the need for holding talks with Qadri and Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan in order to bring an end to prevailing political crisis in the country.
“Rigging can be probed through a judicial commission,” Sarwar suggested. He said that the government of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was determined to uphold the banner of Constitution and supremacy of Parliament with an objective to strengthen democratic institutions in the country.
“Issues can be resolved through political means,” the Governor said. He urged upon the political forces to bury the hatchet and join hands to promote democracy in the country.
Regarding the menace of corruption, Sarwar commented that eradication of corruption was indispensable for development and prosperity of the country, adding that corruption was posing a serious threat to the stability of Pakistan.
The governor later called on Provincial Minister for Public Health, Engineering and central leader of Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP), Nawab Ayaz Jogezai on Saturday evening.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, he said that all out efforts were being made to remove the sense of deprivation among people of Balochistan. “For this purpose, the federation has extended all possible financial support to Balochistan,” he added.
Quetta terror attacks are security failure, admits Governor Balochistan
Meanwhile, Governor Balochistan Muhammad Khan Achakzai has termed recent terrorist attacks as security failure in Quetta.
He expressed these views after his meeting with Governor Punjab Chaudhary Muhammad Sarwar on Saturday.
Thirteen people were killed and over three dozens were injured on October 23 as result of targeted killing, suicide attack and a blast targeting the vehicle of frontier corps.
The governor stated that strict security measures were being adopted to ensure peace in Quetta and other parts of Balochistan. He, however, said that attack at Quetta air base was foiled with the support of masses. "Otherwise we have suffered another setback", he added.
Achakzai said that federal government has stopped foreign ambassadors from visiting Balochistan owing to law and order problem. He said that the federal government must focus on establishment of peace in the province since it was already aware about the situation here.
The governor strongly condemned the suicide attack at Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazalur Rehman. "I endorse Maulana's demand that national security institutions should probe into the attack on him", he said.
He stated that government has banned all terrorist organisations and that was determined to protect the lives and properties of masses. Governor Achakzai said that Balochistan covers half of the country in terms of area and that the center must support the province in terms of promotion of education and health.
