ISLAMABAD: The Upper House on Wednesday passed five bills unanimously including the Anti-terrorism (Amendment) Bill, 2014 and the Anti-terrorism (Second Amendment) Bill, 2014 to amend the Anti-terrorism Act, 1997.

The Anti-terrorism (Second Amendment) Bill, 2014, moved by Minister for Science and Technology Zahid Hamid, will be helpful to counter the terrorist organisations and their supporters who are involved in financing the terrorism and money laundering inside Pakistan.

Earlier, the senators condemned the suicide attack in Fateh Jang near Attock district in which five people killed including two army officers.

Later, the Senate also passed the Legal Practitioners and Bar Councils (Amendment) Bill, 2014 to amend the Legal Practitioners and Bar Councils Act, 1973 and the Law and Justice Commission of Pakistan (Amendment) Bill, 2014 to amend the Law and Justice Commission of Pakistan Ordinance, 1979 moved by Minister for Law, Justice and Human Rights Pervaiz Rashid.

The House also passed the Services Tribunals (Amendment) Bill, 2014 to amend the Services Tribunal Act, 1973 moved by Minister for Science and Technology Zahid Hamid.

Leader of the House, Raja Zafar-ul-Haq said that it is a great day in the history of Senate as five bills were passed with the support of the opposition parties. He assured the opposition that the government welcomes its suggestions for the amendments in this regard.

Later, Talking to media outside the parliament house, Minister for Information and Broadcasting Senator Pervaiz Rashid has said that the government stands firmly with the institutions of national security.

The minister said that the government will provide all possible support to MQM Chief Altaf Hussain.
