School blown up in Bajaur

KHAR: Unidentified militants below up a government school in Kamangra area of Bajaur Agency on the night between Wednesday and Thursday.

The residents of the area said that a group of armed men entered the building of the primary school for boys and planted several explosive devices in it.

The explosive devices went off and destroyed the school completely, however, there was no loss of human life as the building was vacant at the time of explosions.

Confirming the incident, Assistant Political Agent Shah Naseem Khan said that the school building was destroyed completely. He said that a watchman was present in the school but he was overpowered by the militants when they entered to the school.

The members of village defence committee reached the spot soon after the incident and opened firing on the militants but they managed to escape.

No one claimed responsibility for destroying the school.

Meanwhile, several people including a suspected militant and owner of the school land were arrested during a search operation launched in the area.

According to officials, so far 110 schools have been blown up by militants in Bajaur tribal area.

Also, the students of Aman Kot area in Barang tehsil staged a protest demonstration on Thursday against the shortage of teachers and lack of basic facilities in educational institutions.
