Self-immolation case: SC orders inquiry by sessions judge

LAHORE: Hearing a suo motu case related to the self-immolation of an alleged rape victim in Muzaffargarh in the Supreme Court’s Lahore Registry Monday, Chief Justice Tassaduq Hussain Jillani rejected the police report and directed Additional District and Sessions Judge Muzaffargarh to conduct the inquiry, DawnNews reported.

Chief Justice Jillani heard the suo motu hearing today during which he rejected the report presented by the police in the court.

While expressing displeasure, the Chief Justice remarked that the victim set herself on fire outside the police station due to lack of justice.

He also said that the police was not serious about investigating the incident.

The court ordered Additional Sessions Judge Muzaffargarh to launch a probe into the matter.

Last month, the alleged rape victim had committed self-immolation outside a police station in the presence of her younger brother after a police report helped the accused secure bail.
