KARACHI, April 12 The sale, purchase, rental and leasing of any plot, house and apartment without the mandatory verification of the computerised national identity cards (CNIC) of the persons concerned from the National Database Registration Authority have been banned across the province, particularly in Karachi, for 60 days.

The Sindh home department issued a notification under Section 144 of the criminal procedure code on Monday prohibiting all estate agents and property dealers from making any deal with those having no CNIC verification by Nadra.

All responsibility would be on the property buyers, tenants, agents/brokers, sponsors and property owners in case of not getting verified all the matters, a release issued by the home department said.

The notification said that renting houses without any agreement would be considered as a crime. Before giving property on rent to any foreigner, copies of his/her passport with relevant firm, non-governmental organisation, foreign mission, job letter, sponsor of foreigners and CNIC estate agent must be gotten.

Sindh Home Minister Dr Zulfikar Mirza has directed the police to ensure the implementation of the ban and take a legal action against violators.—PPI
