Was laid by President Asif Ali Zardari on Dec 29, four kilometres from the city on Airport road, he said.

The university had almost finalised purchase of 220 acres at a cost of Rs700,000 per acre, the sources said. The SBBMU had at present only Rs88 million and the cost of land would come to Rs155 million, said the sources.

The VC said the university would conduct examinations of fresh batch (2009-2010) in MBBS, while the construction of Chandka Dental College would be completed by the end of 2010. The dental college is being constructed adjacent to the Chandka Medical College.

He told the team that facilities and infrastructure was available. The team visited various basic and clinical departments of Chandka Medical College and Gambat Institute of Medical Sciences.

They opined that SBBMU possessed infrastructure required under the set criterion of HEC for a university, said Dr Abdul Waheed Memon, media coordinator of SBBMU.

The team said that university deserved encouragement and funding by HEC and the government.—Correspondent
