ISLAMABAD, May 11 The Supreme Court was told here Monday that missing lawyer of Rawalpindi District Bar Nadeem Ahmed Shah was picked up by some intelligence agencies for interrogation over charges of spying.

“I have reasons to believe that Mr Shah is with some intelligence agencies, facing some kind of inquiry into espionage charges,” City Police Officer (CPO) Rao Mohammad Iqbal told a three-judge bench comprising Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry, Justice Raja Fayyaz Ahmed and Justice Chaudhry Ijaz Ahmed.

Another addition in the missing person, Justice Fayyaz quipped but said the court should be told in clear terms that the abducted person was wanted on what charges instead of making confusing statements. On a suo motu the bench had taken up a complaint of Ahmed Shah, the father of Nadeem Ahmed Shah.

“The police are involving Mr Shah in the espionage charges only to save their skin,” Raza Ahmed Shah, elder brother of the abducted person, alleged while talking to Dawn. “My younger brother was an ex-GDP pilot of the Pakistan Air Force but joined the legal profession when he was grounded,” he deplored.

Mr Shah and his friend EME Col Shahid Bashir left his House No 55 A-Block Satellite Town on Thursday last for a dinner with one of his Islamabad-based friends but they could not reach their destination and mysteriously disappeared. Later, District Bar Association (DBA) President Taufeeq Asif who also had lodged a complaint with the Police Station Sadiqabad warned of launching a massive protest in case the police failed to recover Mr Shah.

Advocate General Punjab Mohammad Raza Farooq requested the court to issue notice to the attorney generals since Col Bashir has called his father that he was safe and on duty but could not divulge his whereabouts. Col Bashir even send the car back to his residence in which they had gone for the dinner.

However the bench adjourned the proceedings for Friday next while expressing displeasure over the attitude of the City Police Officer ordering to clearly inform the court in writing about the nature of the allegations so that it could dispose of the proceedings and let the matter proceed in accordance with the law.
