DADU, May 9 Members of the family of a 14-year-old victim of gang rape said on Sunday that the accused in the case fired at their house on Saturday and warned that they would be killed if they did not withdraw the case.

The girl was kidnapped by eight armed men from her house in Bachal Leghari village in Johi taluka on Thursday and was allegedly sexually assaulted. They let the girl go after villagers and her relatives surrounded them.

None of the accused named as suspects Ayoub Leghari, Allah Dino Leghari, Laiq Leghari, Allah Dito Leghari, Mehboob Leghari and two unnamed persons have been arrested.

The girl's father Ghulam Shabbir Leghari said the accused were influential people who had threatened that if he did not withdraw the case they would kidnap the girl again and kill her.

He said that Johi police had taken no action against the accused and complained that no official or public representative had come forward to help them.

PPP MPA Syed Ghulam Shah said he would visit the family on his return from Karachi. He would meet DPO Ghazi Salahudin and ask him to arrest the accused, he said.

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah has taken notice of the incident and directed the DPO to arrest the accused and send him a report within three days.

Mr Salahudin said that the rape was committed by two of the accused and the others helped them in kidnapping her. The accused had left their houses and police were looking for them, he said.

A delegation of Awami Ittehad Dadu visited the girl's family and assured her father of their full support.

PPP MPA Dr Sajeela Leghari also visited the family and assured them that the accused would be arrested within 24 hours.

Meanwhile, the girl's is bed ridden with a fracture in left foot. She is in a state of trauma and could utter only a few words when this correspondent talked to her.

She said the accused would come again and kill her. Meanwhile, activists of JSQM, JSSF, STP and SUP observed a hunger strike in Johi and demanded immediate arrest of the accused.

Their leaders said the accused were still in the area but police were not laying hands on them.

He alleged that the SP investigation and Johi SPO investigation had not yet visited the crime scene and were not extending any cooperation to the girl's family.
