LARKANA, April 10: The Sindh High Court, Larkana circuit, on Wednesday issued notices to the Higher Education Commission (HEC) chairman, the Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Medical University (SBBMU) vice chancellor and registrar, the Chandka Medical College (CMC) principal, the additional advocate-general and others for May 14.

The court also ordered that no coercive action be taken against the petitioner till the next date of hearing.

The order was issued on a petition filed by CMC cardiology professor Dr Saeed Ahmed Sangi, who submitted that the VC was bent upon terminating his service after he refused to withdraw some criminal and civil cases against him.

The petitioner, through his counsel, Shamsuddin Abbasi, accused the vice chancellor of being involved in a number of irregularities and unlawful actions and several of his orders were challenged in the high court.

The petitioner said the VC had been pressuring him and his colleagues to withdraw the cases. He referred to a show cause-notice issued by the VC on Feb 22.

Justice Nisar Mohammed Shaikh restrained the respondents from taking coercive action against the petitioner and put off the matter to May 14.
