KARACHI: North Waziristan agency, a stronghold of militant groups, will have the lowest female representation in Pakistan’s upcoming general elections, shows new district-wise data released by the Election Commission.

According to the released information, only seven per cent of total registered voters in the tribal agency are women — the lowest throughout the country.

Balochistan’s Dera Bugti has 32 per cent women voters, while South Waziristan has 32 per cent women voters.

Most of the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata) and Frontier Regions (FRs) have low representation of women voters, with the exception of Orakzai and Kurram agencies, with 39 and 40 per cent women voters respectively.

Interestingly, restive Balochistan province’s Washuk district comes on top with 48 per cent women voters, with Jaffarabad at the second place, and Sindh’s Matiari and Umerkot also featuring as districts with high female representations, all above 47 per cent.

In terms of numbers, Lahore has the highest number of registered women voters – 1.8 million out of total number of registered voters 4.3 million.

With total 9,509 registered voters, FR Bannu has 1,937 women voters.

According to data earlier released by the ECP, men will outnumber women in the coming polls, with 48.25 million or 56.5 per cent male voters as compared to 37.16 million or 43.5 per cent female voters throughout Pakistan.
