NAWABSHAH, March 25: Sixty people were booked in two separate cases registered at the Taluka police station on Monday following a clash between two groups which left a police officer dead and six students injured at the Quaid-i-Awam University of Engineering, Science and Technology (QUEST), Nawabshah, on Friday.

The rival groups quarrelled over friendship with a female student for two days and finally brought in firearms to attack each other last Friday.

A police team intervened to stop the fighting but SHO Abdul Raheem Khaskheli, who was leading the team, was beaten to death by some of the embattled students.

The Taluka police booked 60 unidentified persons for the SHO’s murder.

QUEST security officer Farhan Ali Bhatti also lodged an FIR under sections 435, 147, 148, 427 and 506/2 of Pakistan Penal Code against 56 people including six students — Anwar Ali, Abdul Ghaffar, Saddam Hussain, Dilmurad Malik, Aftab Augahi and Ghulam Raza Lashari — for gunrunning, damaging vehicles on the campus and creating a law and order situation.

No arrest was made till the filing of the report on Monday evening.

Police had rounded up many students soon following   the clash but released most of them after interrogation.
