LAHORE, March 22: Pakistan Muslim League-N President Nawaz Sharif on Friday made over 3,000 party ticket-seekers to commit themselves for working for eradicating corruption from the country.

It replicated the scene when at the same place Mr Sharif had administered oath to his party’s hopefuls before the 2008 general election wherein the candidates had promised to work for the restoration of the judges former army ruler Pervez Musharraf had removed in a ‘mini martial law’ on Nov 3, 2007.

Speaking on the occasion, the PML-N president assured that those left out in the race for the general election would be given a chance in the local body polls.

In an indirect reference to PTI’s slogan of change, the former prime minister said the country needed a mature leadership and said those who had done nothing (for the nation) were now talking of a change.

He said the green passport lost its respect because of policies adopted by the Musharraf regime, while the country was pushed into darkness of loadshedding during the PPP government.

He lamented that helicopters of a foreign force attacked Abbotabad and a report of the commission formed to probe the incident was not made public.

In fact, he said, no report into any of the tragedies the country faced saw the light of day.

Referring to development works the PML-N government undertook in Punjab, he promised if voted to power, his party would extend the motorway up to Karachi, build an underground mass transit system in the port city and introduce bullet trains.

He also said at least 50,000MW power would be generated to meet all energy needs for future.

Merging for what?

The concern is that if the government is thinking of cutting costs through the merger, we might even lose the functionality levels we currently have.
