Still another incident of vandalism and madness against Christians on the allegations of blasphemy has resulted in 178 homes being arsoned and 35 people being injured.

The list of the persecution against minorities in Pakistan is endless and horrible. Punjab had remained the epicentre of such victimisation against minorities.

From the agitation against Ahmadis in the 50s to this tragic incident today, the history of such cruelty against minorities is written in blood.

The bold voices of Salman Taseer and Bhatti against these brutalities had been silenced forever. Now the hatred against minorities has crossed limits.

Politicians should stop selling their soul by patronising the leaders of banned outfits for the sake of votes.

Frenzy of talks with the  Taliban would make the matter worse unless the state organs are clear and rise above narrow-minded short-term strategy of appeasement.

Relocating survivors

The Punjab government has failed to provide security to minorities, causing losses worth millions of rupees in the most populous locality of Lahore, Badami Bagh.

I request the chief minister of Punjab to address the grievances of Christian minorities on an urgent basis and prove his generosity once again by allotting them houses in the Ashiana housing scheme.
