LAHORE, March 9: Nauman Shaukat, Mohammad Imran and Raheela Bano emerged winners of their respective categories in road cycle races held at the Lahore Ring Road as part of the Punjab Youth Festival here on Saturday.
In the 66km race for professional cyclists, Nauman Shaukat of Gujranwala covered the distance in one hour and 38 minutes to clinch the top spot. He was followed by his brother Imran Shaukat and Mohammad Shakeel.
Mohammad Imran obtained first position in the 22km race, covering the distance in 38 minutes with Mohammad Azeem and Shamoon securing second and third places, respectively.
Also, national champion Raheela Banu won the 22km race in the women’s event, covering the distance in 45 minutes while Maliaka and Shamim Urooj finished second and third, respectively with 30 women in all taking part in the race.
It is pertinent to mention that toppers will get their cash awards here on March 14 during the closing ceremony of the youth festival with top three cyclists of the 66km to be honoured with a cash prizes of Rs200,000, Rs150,000 and Rs100,000, respectively.
Top three position holders of both men’s and women’s events taking part in 22km races will get Rs50,000, Rs40,000 and Rs30,000, respectively.
The 17km marathon race will also be held on Sunday, starting from Punjab Stadium and going through Kalma Chowk Underpass, Ferozepur Road, Canal Road and Dharampura, it will finish at its starting point.
There will also be a three-kilometre fun race for ladies and families.—Sports Reporter
