LAHORE, Feb 27: A judicial magistrate on Wednesday extended physical remand of Efroze Chemical’s Managing Director Nadir Feroze Khan, involved in the PIC spurious medicine scam.

Shadman police investigating officer Taimur Husain produced the accused before the magisterial court of Model Town and sought further remand.

A deputy prosecutor, Waqar Ahmad Bhatti, argued that the police had to recover drums of the chemical used in the manufacturing of spurious medicine, therefore, physical custody of the accused was required to be extended.

Opposing the remand plea, accused’s counsel Khurram Saeed said the police had already completed the investigation but intentionally delaying the trial.

He pointed out that the police officials had told the Supreme Court that investigation in the case was complete and charge-sheet would be submitted soon. He said there was no need to extend physical remand and urged the court to send the accused on judicial remand so that the trial could be commenced.

The magistrate extended the remand for three days and directed the investigating officer to complete the investigation by Saturday.
