LAHORE: A division bench of the Supreme Court Thursday set aside a stay order granted by the Lahore High Court (LHC) against tax increase on incoming international calls.

The bench headed by Justice Tassaduq Hussain Jillani passed the orders on an appeal filed by ADG LDI (Pvt) limited against the LHC interim order. The bench was hearing the matter at Supreme Court’s Lahore Registry.

Earlier, the petitioner's counsel submitted before the court that a LHC single bench had issued a stay order against tax increase on incoming international calls.

He contended that the matter did not fall under the jurisdiction of the court as it was related to Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP) who was authorised to review the matter. He pleaded the bench to set aside the interim order issued by the LHC.

A deputy attorney general submitted that the notification for tax increase on international incoming calls had already been withdrawn.

After hearing the arguments, the bench set aside the LHC stay order and referred the matter to CCP.
