LAHORE, Feb 20: Restoration of the Royal Trail inside Delhi Gate is under way to facilitate residents and to make it attractive for tourists.

“Under the Sustainable Development of Walled City of Lahore Project, the basic structure of the bazaar from Delhi to Chitta gates is being changed,” said a Walled City Lahore Authority spokesperson on Wednesday.

A five feet and six inches deep and 200 meter long ditch has been dug up to make sewerage and rainwater disposal, gas and water supply, telephone and internet systems underground.

“The distinctive feature of the ongoing work is to improve sewerage system at Walled City -- to separate sewerage and rainwater disposal channels and to utilise the latter for some other productive purposes.

“At present, sewerage system is being laid at Delhi Gate while uniform shutters are also being installed at shops. In order to facilitate local residents and traders during the restoration work, temporary passages have been put in place. Efforts are afoot to complete the project in shortest possible time,” said the spokesperson.
