TIMERGARA, Feb 9: Clerks in Lower Dir on Saturday threatened to boycott the next elections over the government’s failure to offer time-scale promotion to them.

They also announced to stage a sit-in outside the provincial assembly in Peshawar on Feb 13.

The threat and announcement was made during a meeting of All Pakistan Clerks’ Association (APCA), Lower Dir chapter in Balambat here.

APCA president Shaier Tajak chaired the meeting, where members of APCA district and tehsil cabinets were in attendance.

The speakers, including Mohammad Shaier, Mohammad Salim, Shah Bacha and Ibadur Rehman, criticised the government for delaying time-scale promotion to clerks.

They said people in authority had repeatedly assured APCA of the early introduction of time-scale promotion for clerks, but the assurances turned out to be false.

The speakers said the government was about to complete term in office and therefore, there was unrest among clerks.

They said clerks would stage a sit-in outside the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly on Feb 13 to press the government into giving clerks the time-scale promotion.

The speakers said the clerks’ two-days pen-down strike on Thursday and Friday would continue until their demand was met.

They said if their demands were not met, clerks won’t cast vote in the next elections.
