KARACHI, Feb 5: A young man was shot dead in Liaquatabad on Tuesday.

Police said that assailants riding a motorcycle targeted Mohammad Raza when he was sitting outside his house in Liaquatabad C-1 Area and fled.

The wounded was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where he died during treatment, the police said. The victim suffered a bullet wound in the chest.

The police found one spent bullet casing of a 9mm pistol from the crime-scene.

‘Bandits’ kill man on resistance A man was shot dead by armed bandits in his house in Baldia Town in the early hours of Tuesday.

Police said that the bandits entered the house in the Abidabad area within the remit of the Baldia Town police station, held members of the family at gunpoint to collect valuables. However, Zafar ur Rehman, 50, offered resistance upon which the bandits fired at him and fled from the house. The victim died before he could be taken to hospital, the police said.

Fire in factory Fire brigade officials took five hours to put out a fire that had broken out in a plastic packaging factory in the export processing zone in Landhi on Tuesday. No casualties were reported in the fire.

A storage facility in the factory was gutted in the fire, said Chief Fire Officer Saleem Ethasham.

Although the cause of the fire could not be known immediately, it damaged a sizable part of the factory spread over an area of 2,000 square yards.

Six fire tenders took part in the fire fighting operation, which lasted around five hours, he said.
