KARACHI, Feb 3: Five men, including a doctor and Jamaat-i-Islami worker, were killed in different acts of violence in the city, police and sources said on Sunday.

The doctor was shot dead in Hussainabad on the Food Street within the remit of the Azizabad police station late on Saturday night, the police added.

They said at least two suspects who had arrived there on a motorcycle went to 55-year-old Dr Mohammad Ismail Suria’s private clinic and opened fire on him.

“A suspect in black shirt and jeans went straight up to the doctor in the clinic walking past the sitting patients and shot him,” Gulberg SSP Amir Farooqui said. The suspects escaped.

The victim was taken to another private hospital, where he died during treatment, the police added.

A spokesperson for the Jamaat-i-Islami said that the slain doctor was their worker. He condemned the killing and demanded immediate arrest of the killers.

Following the incident, tension gripped the locality where some unidentified men resorted to firing into the air and forced some shopkeepers to close their shops.

The funeral prayer of the victim was offered at a local mosque in Federal B Area after Fajr prayers on Sunday.

Man found shot dead The body of a young man, stuffed in a gunny bag, was found in the Old Golimar area on Sunday morning.

Police said that body was found in Rexer Lane and the victim had been shot in the head.

The body was shifted to the Civil Hospital Karachi for medico-legal formalities. The victim was later identified as Shahid Baloch, a resident of Lyari.

The police suspected that the killing was linked with the ongoing warfare between criminal gangs in Lyari. However, further investigations were under way.

Watchman killed A young man was shot dead in Azizabad on Sunday morning, police said.

They said the incident took place near a private school in the area where Sohail Rafique, a watchman was asleep outside a showroom. Two suspects on a motorbike came and shot him, the police said, adding that the victim died on the spot.

The victim’s body was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. The police said that the deceased had a criminal record and had been nominated in some FIRs registered at the area police station.

Young man shot dead A young man was shot dead by robbers within the remit of the Federal B Industrial Area police station on Sunday.

The police said that unidentified suspects intercepted Rizwan Wahid on a motorcycle and demanded valuables from him. On his resistance, they shot him and fled on their bike.

The victim was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Killing in SITE The body of an unidentified young man was found in a storm-water drain in the SITE area on Sunday.

The police said that body was found within the remit of the Site-B police station.

The police shifted the body to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities.

Following the legal formalities the body, which bore multiple gunshot wounds, was taken to the Edhi morgue for want of identification, the police added.

Fire at army barracks A fire that broke out in the army barracks near Lucky Star in the early hours of Sunday was controlled after one and half hours of efforts, a spokesperson for the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said.

No casualty was reported in the incident.

The fire department officials said that the fire broke out at around 2.30am at one of the barracks located behind the Corps Headquarters Karachi office.

The ISPR spokesperson said that a wooden building was partially damaged in the fire.

To ascertain the cause of the fire a committee had been constituted, the official added.

“But, immediately it appears to have been caused by a short circuit,” it was stated.
