THIS refers to Rafi Ahmed’s letter ‘Business graduates and local companies’ (Jan 22). In my 10-year career I had an opportunity to work in both multinationals and domestic companies.
The biter truth is that most of the multinationals operating in Pakistan have not only inefficient management systems but they indulge in unethical practices such as bribing government officials, working with informal vendors (who do not pay taxes), etc.
The multinationals have limited stakes in domestic economy. You just have to look at their percentage of budget in Pakistan against global budgets. There are, of course, some pathetic local companies, but we must remember local businesses have larger stakes in the local economy.
