LAHORE, Jan 15: A Lahore High Court division bench on Tuesday disqualified PPP MNA Malik Nawab Sher Waseer for having been dismissed from service and possessing a bogus BA degree.

Waseer had won the 2008 general election from NA-76, Faisalabad, Jaranwala.

Munir Ahmad and other voters of the constituency had filed petitions for his disqualification alleging that he had been terminated from service in the Pakistan Air Force and had undergone imprisonment following a court martial.

The petitioners alleged that the respondent MNA had obtained his BA degree through impersonation. They said the respondent at the time of filing of nomination papers concealed all these facts and had not disclosed his assets.

They prayed to the court to invoke articles 62 and 63 of the Constitution and disqualify the MNA.

Earlier, a single bench had dismissed the writ petitions and the petitioners had filed intra-court appeals with the division bench.

The bench comprising Justice Khalid Mahmood Khan and Justice Shujaat Ali Khan accepted the appeals and declared the respondent disqualified.
