LAHORE, Jan 12: An eight-event card featuring two cup races will be the highlights of the 19th Lahore Winter Meeting at the Racecourse here on Sunday.

For equine sports lovers the most interesting event will be the Ravi Cup a term race for four-year-old colts and fillies to be gone over 1,800 metres.

Of the seven acceptors four are the Pakistan Derby contenders including top fillies — Raks-e-Hawa and Unanimous who have shown fantastic performances recently.

However, there are still seven weeks to go before the Derby, as all Derby contenders are undergoing preparations for the biggest classic race of the country.

The other cup event, named after the legendry Derby winner Zahid Prince is a class four and five combined race to be contested over the sprinting distance of 1,200 metres. It also includes four Derby contenders.

The events are expected to provide interesting and stiff competition while the best breeds thoroughbreds jostle for supremacy.

The first race will be held at 11.30am.
