PESHAWAR, Jan 6: Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf (PTI) has announced to hold intra-party elections at tehsil and district levels in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Jan 17.

Thereafter, intra-party elections at divisional and provincial levels will take place. The exercise will be complete by the end of the current month.

The schedule was announced by Qazi Anwar, the provincial PTI chief election commissioner and member of the party’s central election commission, at a news conference at Peshawar Press Club the other day.

He said candidates could submit nomination papers from Jan 8 to Jan 9, while scrutiny, while the process of withdrawal and list of the final candidates would finalised until Jan 11.

Mr Anwar said candidates would have to despot Rs3,000 each for contesting presidential seat at tehsil level and Rs1,500 each for senior vice president, vice president and general secretary. He further said the candidates for the finance secretary, information secretary, minority secretary and others should deposit Rs1,000 each in PTI account at Habib Bank branches.

The cabinet, he said would consist of 21 members at tehsil level including a president, four vice president, a general secretary, four joint secretaries (two each for male and female) and others,” Mr Anwar said, adding that the fee for president at district level was Rs10,000, Rs5,000 each for senior vice president, vice president, general and finance secretaries, and Rs2,000 for other designations.

The PTI leader said the election process would be completed in all districts of the province except Torghar district where the party faced some difficulties for the purpose.

He said the candidates, who had come unopposed on union council seats and wanted to contest elections for any other seat would have to hold only one seat at a time of his/her choice.

Mr Anwar said party chief Imran Khan had directed the workers to consolidate the party through intra-party election. The central leadership has also released Rs6.5 million for the election in KP.
