ISLAMABAD, Jan 1: An official of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) was killed when a pistol he was cleaning went off accidentally on Tuesday, police said.

The deceased was identified as Fazlur Rehman, 57, a resident of Dhoke Kashmirian in the rural area of Islamabad. He worked in the complaint cell of the civic agency.

The Tarnol police said the victim’s family heard a gunshot and rushed into the room of Mr Rehman and found him lying in a pool of blood with a bullet injury to the abdomen.

The injured was shifted to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Meanwhile, a traffic police sub-inspector was injured while trying to intercept a passenger bus on Lehtrar Road.

Noor Ahmed, the SI, spotted the bus carrying passengers on the rooftop in violation of rules and signalled the driver to stop.

The driver and the conductor misbehaved with the policeman when he asked the passengers to disembark from the rooftop.

When the driver threatened the policeman and tried to speed away, the SI chased the bus on his motorcycle and intercepted it.

However, the driver knocked him down and broke his legs and drove off.
