KARACHI: Pakistan brushed aside Japan 5-2 in the last pool game of the Asian Hockey Champions Trophy on Wednesday to set up a final clash against India in Doha, Qatar.

Abdul Haseem Khan and Waqas Sharif scored twice each as Shakeel Abbasi scored one goal to guide the Greenshirts to a comprehensive victory. However, Pakistan's fate was dependent on the result  of the match between Malaysia and India.

Malaysia, who did not reach the final despite a 5-3 win over India, needed to win by a margin of four goals or more to qualify.

The tournament comprised six top teams from Asia – Pakistan, China, India, Oman, Malaysia and Japan.

Pakistan thrashed Oman in their opening match 8-3, followed by a 5-2 win over China, a 3-3 draw against Malaysia and lost 2-1 to India who they had beaten to clinch the bronze medal at the Champions Trophy earlier this month.
