Akmal, Sharma fined by ICC over T20 face-off

KARACHI: Pakistan's wicketkeeper-batsman Kamran Akmal and Indian bowler Ishant Sharma were fined portions of their match fees after being found guilty of breaching ICC's Code of Conduct during the first Twenty20 in Bangalore on Tuesday.

Akmal was fined five per cent of his match fees, after he pleaded guilty to breaches of Article 2.1.8 of the ICC Code of Conduct during the 18th over of Pakistan's innings.

Sharma, though pleading guilty to the charge, appealed against the penalty. After a review, the decision was upheld and it was confirmed that Sharma had initiated the exchange as a result of which he was charged 15 percent of his match fees.

"This is clearly a high profile and high intensity series and the players on both sides have been reminded of their responsibility. Both players recognised their duty to set the right type of example through their on-field behaviour and they have accepted that they fell short of the level of conduct required," said Roshan Mahanama of the ICC Elite Panel of Referees.

Bowl well rather than playing unnecessary mind games. Ishant was the provoker and Kamran could have ignored him instead of responding, great batsmens I knew never responded vebally to the bowler's clownish behaviours and they only responded with their bat.

Good for them, please keep in mind the sensitive nature of India Pakistan relationship, it should not be marred by incidents like this. The host has to be even more accomodating.

Well done to the refs, there is no room for such nonsense in sports. Kids watch these guys and they are heroes to them.. they should lead by example... i.e. ever Seen Dhoni or Imran Khan act this way ?

Time has changed, this is not the Indian team of 1980's. Gambhir, Kohli, Ishant and Yuvi can take on any pakis and give it back to them mouthful, so don't mess with these Indian players, Ishant could have snapped the dwarf Karman into two pieces. Kamran Akhmal is the main culprit, he fought with Gambhir too last time.

What so ever have had happened there and Akmal shouldn't do like what he did during match. They are the representatives of the country and any odd action would create problem for him. We should behave like gentlemen see the old players, who really contributed lots of love for Pakistan.

Had Akmal initiated the brouhaha he would had been fined a minimum of 50% match fees. Ishant Sharma got away by mere a slap on the wrist (15%). ICC is known to be hostile towards Pakistanis and favouring India. BCCI needs to discipline the hot headed Sharma who lets anger get better of him. Sharma clearly was exhibiting hostile behavior when he first blocked Hafeez in the running between wickets, then INITIATED verbal brawl with Akmal and then hurled what clearly looked like a barrage of angry expletives at Akmal when Akmal got out. Kudos to Hafeez and Akmal and shame on Sharma!

It is good step of ICC to taking keen notice of players.we know the cricket is for entertainting to people. It does't mean that we fight to each other.by doing this abhornesses will increase, not decrease. be patience and avoid from such harsh languages.

Indians should accept defeat gracefully and not overreact to the situation. Players commonly use the f... word when something is not upto their expectations. So they should be reprimanded for abusing the opposite team players even in their own language. Like Ishant Sharma just after the altercation showered a fair amount of expletives towards Akmal after taking his catch. Somebody knowing Punjabi will clearly make out what he was saying. So be it Indian, Pakistani or any other country, they should be penalised in some way or the other for such kind of street behaviour on the cricket field.
