ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Wednesday directed the Inspector General Police of Punjab, Islamabad and National Highway & Motorway to arrest and produce former chairman Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) Tauqir Sadiq on December 26.

A two-member bench comprising Justice Jawad S Khawaja and Justice Khilji Arif Hussain resumed hearing of the Ogra implementation case.

During the course of hearing, Waqar Ahmed, the investigating officer of NAB informed the bench that the Punjab and Motorway police were not cooperating with the authorities in the arrest of Tauqir Sadiq.

On it the bench summoned Inspector General Police of Punjab, Haji Habibur-Rehman and Inspector General of National Highway & Motorway Police Zaffar Abbas Luk to appear and apprise the bench over the allegation of NAB officer.

Inspector General Police of Punjab, Haji Habibur-Rehman appeared before the bench and apprised that Punjab police is extending full cooperation in arrest of the accused and assured that Tauqir Sadiq would be arrested soon.

He said that a senior police official of the anti-terrorist cell was deputed with NAB to ensure cooperation.

However, the bench observed that if a known person has not been arrested by IGP Punjab and head of ATC for the last three months then how police could trace out the other unknown persons.

The bench inquired from the IGP Motorway, Zafar Abbas Luk, on the claim of the investigating officer that despite informing the Motorway Police that the former Ogra chairman was travelling in their jurisdiction, no action was taken.

The IG said that he checked the record but no such vehicle entered or exited from the motorway.

However, he assured the court that motorway police would extend cooperation in the arrest of accused.

Further hearing of the case was adjourned until Dec 26.
