LAHORE, Dec 8: Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) President Chaudhry Shujaat Husain says people have rejected the politics of the Punjab rulers and his party’s alliance with the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) will gain more strength in the general elections.

He congratulated Omar Sharif, his party’s newly-elected MPA from Narowal, who called on him and Deputy Prime Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi at their residence here on Saturday. Mr Sharif defeated PML-Q forward bloc head Dr Tahir Ali Javed’s father Dr Naimat Ali Javed in last Tuesday’s by-poll.

Husain said turncoats should learn a lesson from the victory of Mr Sharif. He said the PML-Q vote bank in Punjab had increased as compared to the 2008 general elections.

He said people were not going to trust the false promises of the leaders who thought they were popular among the masses. “The PML-Q is a party of the masses and in the coming elections we will get more votes compared to the last ones,” he added. — Staff Reporter
