LAHORE: Pakistan People’s Party’s (PPP) Central Punjab President Manzoor Wattoo has accused the Punjab government of rigging the recent by-elections, asking that the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to investigate the matter, DawnNews reported.

Speaking to media representatives in Lahore on Thursday, Wattoo said that that the administration, with the help of the police, used threats to gain more votes. He said that the apex court should take notice of the rigging in Punjab, just like it did in the Waheeda Shah slapping case in Sindh.

Wattoo alleged that the Punjab government had ignored the federal government’s request to appoint Rangers to administer the by-polls.

He further said that the unsuccessful candidates of the by-elections would submit appeals in court and the ECP in order to obtain justice.
