RAIWIND: Chief of Pakistan’s main opposition party in the National Assembly, Nawaz Sharif has said that building the disputed Kalabagh dam without mutual consensus was not in the interest of the country.

Speaking to the media on Wednesday after a session with the party’s Sindh leaders, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) chief said that the controversial project could only be initiated if consensus was created among the four provinces.

Sharif said that the PML-N opposed the Sindh local government ordinance passed by the government and that his party stood with the nationalist parties on the issue of the local government system. The PML-N chief termed the ordinance the equivalent of the division of Sindh.

He said that militant wings of political parties were responsible for the law and order situation in Karachi. However, he alleged, these parties, being coalition partners, were in cahoots with the government in concealing each others' crimes.

Sharif said that the government was doing a great injustice to Pakistan by neglecting Karachi. He vowed that the PML-N, if elected, would transform Sindh’s conditions and restore peace in Karachi.
