LAHORE, Dec 3: The Lahore High Court has been approached with the request to order action against the CNG stations’ owners for observing an unannounced strike in a bid to avoid gas sale on reduced prices.

A citizen, Amjad Ali Qasim, filed a petition through Advocate Fahad Ahmed Siddiqui, saying the CNG crisis persisted as most of the CNG stations owners across the country were on a virtual strike for the third consecutive week.

He said the filling stations owners had been fleecing the consumers by making huge profits and they were still earning undue profit of more than five rupees per kg.

The petitioner said the authorities had been issuing mere warnings to the CNG stations and failed to take punitive action against their owners for flouting court orders.

He prayed that the minister for petroleum should be summoned in the court and ordered to cancel licenses of the CNG stations observing the illegal strike. He also sought directions for continuous gas supply to the consumers.

Ministry of Petroleum, Oil & Gas Regulatory Authority, Competition Commission of Pakistan, Chairman of All Pakistan CNG Association and others have been made respondents in the petition.

NGO BAN: A petition has been filed in the Supreme Court seeking a ban on the activities of all non-government organisations (NGOs) working in the country.

Barrister Zafarullah Khan of Watan Party filed the petition at the Lahore registry of the SC and contended that there was no record of the NGOs working in Pakistan, what was their purpose and from where they were getting funds.

The petitioner alleged that the NGOs’ working was dubious and they were responsible for lawlessness in Balochistan, Karachi and other parts of the country.

He said an audit of all NGOs should be conducted as everyone should know from where they were getting money and how they were using it. Barrister Khan sought a permanent ban on all NGOs and a thorough inquiry into their working.
