LONDON, Dec 3: Napoli thrashed 10-man Pescara 5-1 Sunday to stay hard on the heels of Serie A leaders Juventus while Olympique Marseille kept up the pressure on Ligue 1 leaders Lyon with a 2-1 win at Stade Brest.

Elsewhere, Real Betis recorded a 3-2 victory at Deportivo La Coruna to move up to fourth in La Liga and a Marko Arnautovic hat-trick helped Werder Bremen close in on the Europa League spots after a 4-1 Bundesliga victory at Hoffenheim.

Chasing their first title since Diego Maradona played for the club, two goals each by Gokhan Inler and Edinson Cavani helped Napoli stay two points behind Juve on 33 from 15 games.

Inter Milan are four points behind Juve on 31 after ending a run of three games without a win thanks to an own goal by Palermo’s Santiago Garcia who deflected Andrea Ranocchia’s cross past his own keeper to give the Milan giants a 1-0 victory.

Lazio’s 2-1 win over Parma had moved the Biancocelesti up one place to fourth, but that was reclaimed by Fiorentina despite the Viola being held to a 2-2 by Sampdoria while sixth-placed Roma came back to beat Siena 3-1 with two goals from Mattia Destro.

Joey Barton delivered his best performance for Marseille, setting up both goals in their victory at Brest that moved the visitors up to second place in Ligue 1, two points behind Lyon.

Centre back Souleymane Diawara and winger Andre Ayew scored either side of the break from neat passes by the controversial Barton, on loan from Queens Park Rangers, as Marseille moved to 29 points from 15 games.

Another on-loan player shone on Sunday as Costa Rican forward Joel Campbell showed what Arsenal are missing this season when he curled a spectacular winner from long range to put Betis on 25 points from 14 games, four behind third-placed Real Madrid.

Arnautovic’s treble sent Bremen to 21 points and eighth place on Germany — two points from a European spot and 17 behind leaders Bayern Munich.—Agencies
