THIS is apropos of the letter ‘Branded clothes: a symbol of pride?’ (Nov 16) by Rimsha Ahmad.

The writer has complained about costly branded clothes available in Karachi. I would like her to pay a visit to any local-branded store and foreign- branded store and judge the quality.

I have been using local clothes in the past but am sorry to say I paid more than foreign branded clothes and the quality of these local clothes which, in some cases, were more expensive than foreign branded clothes, was poor.

If you get better quality foreign branded clothes at a lesser or same price of local clothes than why not go for it. Local brands have now tough competition from foreign brands and the only way is to improve quality according to the price.

Coming elections

PAKISTANI nation is still trying to figure out the meaning of ‘roti, kapra aur makaan’. This is socialist ideology where everyone must be equal and the state must provide all basic necessities to its citizens.

But if a meagre amount of Rs1,000 per month being provided by the government to the people through Benazir Income Support Programme cannot even fulfill need of a child, then how a household can survive?

The PPP used the slogan of ‘roti, kapra aur makaan’. But one can easily see that the rich are getting richer, while the poor are getting poorer under the current PPP government. The people must open their eyes and educated youth must mobilise the voters what actually roti, kapra aur makaan means.
