ISLAMABAD: The marketing companies on Wednesday increased the price of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) by up to Rs 15 per kg.

Chairman of the LPG Distributors Association Muhammad Irfan Khokhar said that the price of a domestic cylinder had been raised by up to Rs 170 and a commercial cylinder by up to Rs 680.

As a result of the increase from Rs 125 to Rs 140 per kg, the domestic cylinder will be available at Rs 1630 in Karachi, he added.

Likewise, the domestic cylinder will cost Rs 1690 in Lahore, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Jhelum and Faisalabad, with per kg price rise from Rs 135 to Rs 145, he said.

He said that the LPG would be available at Rs 150-160 per kg in Multan, Bhawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan, Murree, Rawalpindi, Islamabad and Peshawar with the price of domestic cylinder at Rs 1870.

He said that in Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Bagh the new price of LPG would stand at Rs 180-190 per kg and domestic cylinder at Rs 2230.

Similarly, he said, the price had been raised to Rs 200 per kg with domestic cylinder to Rs 2350 in Gilgit-Baltistan and Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA).

Khokhar termed the increase unjustified, saying what he described as the ‘gas mafia’ in shape of marketing companies were earning unjustified profit.

He appealed to the Chief Justice of Pakistan and the Prime Minister to take strict action against such elements in the LPG sector in order to extend relief to consumers.

He also called upon the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) to come down on such forces in the LPG market by canceling their quota and licences.
