MANSEHRA, Nov 20: The district administration on Tuesday stepped in to prevent possible tension in Mansehra, which has already been declared sensitive for Muharram by the government.

Sunni ulema gathered at the central mosque here to discuss the situation, which emerged after ‘rumours’ about the breach of the 1991 Muharram peace agreement and the widening of the Ashura procession route spread.

DCO Dr Amber Ali Khan along with DPO Sher Akbar showed up and clarified the position on ‘rumours’.

“The district administration has no intention to widen the previous route and will strictly follow the agreement signed in 1991. You (ulema) should not heed rumours being spread to create a law and order situation in the otherwise peaceful district,” Mr Khan told participants.

He appealed to the ulema to play an active role in bringing the situation to normalcy. — Correspondent
