ISLAMABAD, Nov 20: Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui of Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Tuesday suspended the allotment of 450 stalls at Faizabad. The allotment was made to a man allegedly linked to a local politician of the ruling party.

The court passed the orders on the petition of Amir Hanif, president of hawkers and stall holders action committee.

Advocate Mohammad Ashraf Gujjar, counsel of the petitioner adopted before the court that former chairman of Capital Development Authority (CDA) Farkhand Iqbal on September 17, 2012, had allotted 450 kiosks to Raja Sajid Riaz, on a monthly rent of Rs1,000 per month, for each kiosk.

He said that in turn Mr Sajid engaged Raja Gudoo for selling and booking the 450 kiosks, adding that they were charging Rs200,000 as booking fee for each kiosk and had fixed Rs7,000 as monthly rent for these kiosks, in addition to the booking fee.

The counsel pointed out that this way Rs900 million would have been generated from the booking of kiosks and Rs315 million as monthly rent.

The counsel alleged that the station house officer (SHO) at I-9 police station was facilitating the whole plundering and also patronising this mafia.

He alleged that Raja Sajid and Raja Gudoo in connivance with the CDA officials and district administration had illegally occupied the greenbelts, where they had established illegal bus stands.

The court also took up another related petition filed by barrister Jahangir Khan Jadoon against the encroachment in the federal capital.

Justice Siddiqui earlier on November 13 directed IHC assistant registrar to verify reports regarding CDA anti-encroachment drive in the federal capital, in which it had removed encroachments from 59 different places.

The report submitted by IHC assistant registrar Shafiqur Rehman disclosed that about half of the encroachers, after the CDA anti-encroachment drive, reappeared on the encroached spot. The court would take up the matter again on a date to be fixed by the registrar office.
