ISLAMABAD: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Balochistan chapter president Sadiq Umrani on Monday urged Chief Minister Nawab Aslam Raisani to leave the course of collision with the Supreme Court demanding immediate resignation from his post, DawnNews reported.

Speaking to media representatives outside the Balochistan House in Islamabad, Umrani demanded Raisani to immediately resign from the post of provincial chief minister following the interim orders of the apex court on Balochistan law and order.

The Supreme Court, in its October 12 order, had said the provincial government has lost its constitutional authority to govern the province as violation of fundamental rights continued.

However, referring to the court’s severe criticism of the Balochistan government’s lack of governance, the federal government earlier this month had made it clear that it found the order flawed and that only the president had the right to intervene in affairs of provinces.

The PPP’s Kalat chapter had suspended the party membership of the chief minister earlier this month as well.

Meanwhile, a high level meeting of parliamentary group of Balochistan's coalition parties, under chairmanship of the chief minister, was held at the Balochistan House on Monday.

The cabinet meeting agreed that the Balochistan government was already taking concrete measures in improving the law and order situation and upholding the writ of law and constitution in the province.

The meeting was briefed by a team of legal experts comprising Khawaja Haris Advocate and Shahid Hamid Advocate on the legal and constitutional aspects in the wake of Supreme Court’s ruling relating to PSDP 2012-13 and the than prevailing law and order situation in the province.

The PPP provincial president, during his media interaction today, declared that holding the meeting of Balochistan cabinet at Quetta or Balochistan Houses in Islamabad was unconstitutional.

He said that the purpose of calling the cabinet meeting at the Balochistan House was to put pressure on the apex court.

Moreover, Umrani blamed the Balochistan government under Raisani of grafting around Rs 900 billion.
