LADHA, Nov 14: Five militants were killed and six others wounded during a search operation conducted by security forces in Sunzala area of Sarokai tehsil in South Waziristan on Wednesday, official sources said.

At least 15 units of armed forces took part in the operation which began at around 7:30am and continued till 6pm.

They said five militants were killed and six others injured and three bunkers were destroyed during the search operation.

The Wana-Gomal and Wana-Jandula roads were closed from morning to evening and the PTCL and cellphone services remained suspended till late night.

Around six weeks ago, military officials and political authorities had told the Mehsud tribe that militant groups present in the area were carrying out sporadic attacks on security forces and government installations in Sunzala, Sarokai, Ziarat and Kanday Ghar. They had asked people to evacuate the area so that they could take action against the militants, leading some 1,000 families of Sunzala to move to Tank and Dera Ismail Khan.
