ISLAMABAD: The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) will decide the prices of the petroleum products on Tuesday, DawnNews quoted Advisor to the Prime Minister on Petroleum and Natural Resources Dr Asim Hussain as saying.

Dr Hussain paid a surprise visit to the Islamabad office of the Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL)on Monday and took action over complaints of excess billing against the company.

The adviser reprimanded the General Manager of SNGPL’s Islamabad office and also suspended chief engineer Naseer Feroze.

Speaking to media representatives after the visit, Dr Hussain said the summary of petroleum prices had been forwarded to the ECC which would, after analysis, decide how often should petroleum prices be revised.

He said that he was supportive of the view that the CNG should be provided to the public transport on priority basis.

He declared that the policies of previous governments pertaining to petroleum prices were faulty and said that the role of Ogra was important.

Dr Hussain also admitted that the present government was helpless in taking action against owners of non-compliant CNG stations.
