BAHAWALPUR, Oct 30: Twenty four people, among them seven women and four children, died and 10 others were injured in a head-on collision between a wagon and a truck near a bypass here on Tuesday.

Seven of those killed belonged to the same family.

According to Dr Asif Rahim Channar, district in charge of Rescue 1122 service, 20 passengers died on the spot and four in the Bahawal Victoria Hospital. The wagon was going to Ahmedpur East. Witnesses blamed reckless driving for the accident. Four of those killed were on the truck.

Rescue workers and administration and police personnel took the bodies and injured to the hospital.  The deceased included Muhammad Mobin, Tauheed, M. Imran, Majid, Nasir, M. Jamil, M. Rafiq, Akram, Tauqeer, Rizwana, Rehana, Zara, Pathani Mai, Hasina Bibi, Zara Bibi, Tahira Bibi and wagon driver Rana Sajid. Truck driver Dur Muhammad suffered serious injuries.
